Aretē Track & Field Club (K-7)

October 7 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Aretē – the pursuit of excellence in body, mind, and soul.

Track and field has its roots in the athletic culture of ancient Greece and Rome, where physical training was considered an essential part of education and a full life. Athletic contests served the multitudes as entertainment, people gathered from far and wide. Above entertainment value, these contests reflected a society that valued discipline, excellence, and the development of the body and mind.

Greek society believed physical excellence reflected deeper moral excellence, an idea captured in Aretē . Athletic training took place in institutions called the Gymnasium, where young men developed both physically and intellectually as part of their education.

Club will be held outside after school on Wednesdays, 4:00-5:00, starting on April 7 and will be available for all students, K-7.

The goal of this club is for students to have an introductory level understanding of the sport that is Track & Field.

Participants will:

  • Learn the basics of all events (sprints, distance, relays, jumps, and throws).
  • Practice fundamental movements essential for the events.
  • Compete against each other as they develop their movements.

It will be led by Mr. Allen and Mr. Haidamous.
