At Southeast Ohio Classical Academy, athletics is not merely an extracurricular activity, but an extension of our mission to train the mind and cultivate the heart. Grounded in the classical understanding of the human person as a unity of body, mind, and soul, our athletic program pursues excellence in physical ability as a means of forming moral character, sound judgment, and joyful discipline.
We believe that sport, rightly ordered, is a liberal art – an embodied form of education that teaches perseverance, courage, moderation, and friendship through movement, competition, and teamwork. The training of the body refines the soul, shaping young men and women to act with integrity, honor, and humility, both in victory and in defeat.
The end of athletics at SOCA is not mere achievement, but aretē – the pursuit of excellence in body, mind, and soul. Through the combination of school and sport, students at SOCA will become the fullest version of themselves, shaped by virtue and committed to what is good.
The mission of Southeast Ohio Classical Academy is to train the minds and cultivate the hearts of young men and women in moral character and civic virtue from a classical curriculum in the liberal arts and sciences.
